Fig Tree & Co. NEW Pattern Showcase!!

We just got in a bundle of fresh new patterns for the Summer from Fig Tree & Co. and what a sweet collection of designs it is!! Everything from new quilts, bags, table runners, pre-cut friendly projects, even a pattern for the brand new Honey Combs! So scroll down to get the scoop on these delicious new projects!

Painted Ladies is a beautiful pattern that started as a table runner, then ended up being turned into a bed runner, then found its way to its most beautiful incarnation, the quilt! These beautiful butterfly blocks are so whimsical and charming, I can see wanting to bring that block onto say, a matching pillow or even a triptych of wall hangings! I mean, who doesn't LOVE butterflies??

This might just about be the easiest and cutest bag Fig Tree & Co. has ever come up with! The One Piece Bag is literally one rectangle with a handle loop sewn to it while it is still flat. It is then folded up and the 2 side gussets are pinned in and sewn. That's it! True story. Plus its a great size, you can make the handle long or short depending on how you like to carry your bag and the only hardware used was a magnetic snap and bag "feet" so that it doesn't get dirty when you set it down. That's it! The above version is Joanna's personal bag, SEW pretty right??

And if you're really looking for something to cheer up your Summer, make this adorable Cherry Pie Quilt!! Gather up some beautiful shades of red and green for your cherries and stems, some white background fabric and start creating this cheery design! Hang it on your dining room wall to really lighten and brighten up the space! Or curl up with it and your favorite Summertime read!

And one of the cutest little projects I've seen in a little while are these fun bags made with the new Moda pre-cut Honey Combs!! You can make 5 of these fun little Hexies with just one Honey Comb pack (each bag utilizes 8 hexagons). An awesome little gift to do for exchanges, for your quilting guild or bee or just because they are way fun and utterly ADDICTING to make! Use vintage buttons from your grandma's collection or little snaps you have on hand to finish these cuties up!

Some of the new Fig Tree & Co. designs in action at Spring Quilt Market!! We got a couple more of her new patterns so browse through all of our Fig Tree & Co. Patterns to see them all!! And don't forget to shop the latest collection Avalon, in our store right now!!

Happy Sewing!!

Modern Colorblock Pillow Tutorial!

How cute is this simple little pillow?? I just love the way the tiny blocks of color pop out against the white background! Plus since there's not much going on design-wise, you can really have fun with your quilting! Whether you like a fun meander or an even more modern option, straight diagonal lines! You can find the tutorial here on the Moda Bake Shop Blog! It calls for a Bella Solids charm pack but you can totally pull these from your solid scraps!!

This a great pillow to pair with a fun and modern quilt as a gift! Pick the solids you used in your quilt or add even more interest by using different shades of the same colors! You could make the background gray and do tonal color blocking with shades of blue and green, purple and pink, citrus tones or whatever suits your project! Make one with darker earth tones to go in Dad's man cave for Father's Day!! So much you can do with this simple little design just by changing up those colors! EASY, FAST & FUN = LOTS OF LOVE for this project!

GINGHAM STYLE!!!

As you all know, we just LOVE the awesome Basics that Riley Blake has been releasing over the past year!! Starting with the Chevrons which have absolutely BLOWN UP and are nearly impossible to keep stocked in the store, to the Dots and the ADORABLE Ginghams!!!

These prints are so versatile, you can truly use them in any project needing a pop of color or for adding some interest without introducing a busy print!! We use them for accents in applique, borders, backing and obviously, cute as can be clothing!! I mean come on, how cool is this GINGHAM SUIT?! This is definitely an outfit for a trend setting young man with a LOT of attitude and some sweet dance moves! But even if this is a bit much  of a good thing for your little mister, imagine a really simple pair of elastic waist shorts for Summer or even a cool button up or two!

And now, I present you with the most hilarious and ridiculous video I've seen in awhile from our friends at Riley Blake! It totally reminds me of a home video Karen made of her grandbaby Davis, dancing and singing with Psy! It darn near killed me with cuteness!! This one is almost as good! ;)

Happy Friday y'all!!

Create a Giant Star Quilt from Fat Quarters!!

The design minds over at Art Gallery Fabrics are always so inspirational! I've always been fond of the awesome Fat Quarter Gang projects their arsenal of designers keeps coming up with but after reading through this tutorial, found this amazing quilt by Jeni Baker really caught my eye! A simple star made even easier by the size of the blocks used, this quilt can come together in an afternoon! AND there are lots of different options for choosing fabrics, Jeni made some super cool graphics so you can visualize how the color choices look!

Great for using a whole collection or mixing tons of crazy and bold prints for a super bohemian look! Keep the background fabric a small scale print or a solid to really make that star POP!

I feel like this is a perfect amount of fabrics to choose for a beginner quilter! Make sure the 4 colors you pick are ones you REALLY love and like shown in the graphic, choose a darker and lighter shade of each color to add more interest!

And here's a fun look for a super modern quilt! I would even love to see this in 4 shades of the same color for a cool tonal effect! A great layout to choose if making a baby blanket as you don't have to choose many fabrics and run the risk of it clashing with the nursery! Stick with Solid colors for a quilt that they can truly grow with!!

Bijoux Divine Gypsy Rosewood   Bijoux Exotic Bandana Oasis  Bijoux Mystic Traveler Magenta

We just got in these awesome fabrics from Bari J.'s newest collection Bijoux and I think this quilt would be the perfect project for these pretty prints!! Mix in some solids or small scale prints in coordinating colors and you'll have yourself a beautiful and rich quilt in no time!!

So come on up to the Cabbage Rose and pick out some fabulous Fat Quarters for your new Giant Star Quilt! We are here to help you with fabric choices and would LOVE to see what you're planning! Come get creative with us!! Happy Sewing!

Obsessing Over Brights for Summer!!

We are just LOVING all of the BRIGHTS that are coming out this season! I know Summer is the time of year when we're usually on the look out for these brighter hues and with amazing collections like Bekko Home Décor Sateens, you can create everything from fun skirts and sturdy tote bags to recovering a vintage chair or making an awesome quilt (they're still light enough to feel amazing!)

Pam experimented with them in this funky patchwork quilt she created after getting inspired by the Summer catalogs! Don't think you have to stay within a collection or even a fabric type when making a quilt! She used cottons and sateens from several different collections and the result is just awesome!! Use some Cotton Couture Solids, crazy prints or tonals! Just keep the color family similar or complimentary and you're golden!!

We also have these great OMBRE'S from the Simply Color collection and they are just SCREAMING to me made into something fabulous this season! One of our Facebook friends mention creating a super trendy Ombre Skirt, and another said the gradation of these fabrics is perfect for appliqueing flowers!! How will you use them??

Vote for Caroline in the Project Sewn Week 1 Challenge!!

As you all know, our very own Caroline Hulse is kinda talented. She's been wowing us with her self-taught sewing skills for awhile now and this look that she created for Week One of the Project Sewn Challenge is NO EXCEPTION!

 photo PSWeek1-3_zps6d44d9f0.jpg

Project Sewn is a 4 week sewing competition comprised of 6 designer/seamstresses.  Designers are given a theme each week to base their looks on. This week was Black and White and Caroline definitely knocked this one out of the park!

 photo PSWeek1-1_zpsa00fd67a.jpg

Caroline is channeling her inner Audrey Hepburn with this adorable imagination of the Shift Dress by Favorite Things!! She decided to skip the sleeves and add a couple super cute details like the Peter Pan collar which I am DYING OVER and a bow belt! I just love how chic and sophisticated this look is. And it's a great example of how you can alter a great pattern to your tastes!

NOW GO VOTE FOR CAROLINE!!!
Voting ends TONIGHT so be sure to get your votes in!!

A Full House for Marie Bostwick!

We all had SUCH an amazing time with Marie Bostwick at her Between Heaven and Texas Book Release Party & Signing this past week at the Cabbage Rose and just had to share some of the amazing details of our special celebration for all of you who couldn't make it!!

We listened to Marie share her lovely and heart warming stories over a few true Texas favorites, Dr. Pepper straight out of glass bottles with fancy paper straws and Moon Pies! And all of our decor was really simple with some truly eye-catching fabrics on the tables to really make everything pop! If you have a party to plan this Summer, whether it be a wedding reception, a baby shower or a fun Birthday party, come into the Cabbage Rose and talk to the girls about your ideas and they'll help you come up with some fun decor ideas utilizing your favorite fabrics!

We have all of Marie's Cobbled Court Series books, and the ones we didn't sell that night she went ahead and signed for us so if you would like to purchase one of her amazing books or the whole series, they are all signed by Marie Bostwick herself!

We had so much fun with everyone who came out!! Thank you so much Marie! We just love your books and your stories and the creative spirit that you possess! You are such an incredible inspiration to us all! And thank you to all of you amazing ladies who came out to support Marie and celebrate her latest book, Between Heaven and Texas with us!!
