Sunnyside Diamond Zig Zag Quilt Tutorial

Every once in awhile I see something just fabulous on the Moda Bake Shop blog and this recipe by Janice Ryan of the Better Off Thread blog definitely caught my eye! Using a super convenient Jelly Roll from Kate Spain's newest collection, Sunnyside (PRE-CUTS ARE IN STOCK!) she created this stunning, diamond pieced chevron quilt that is just blowing my doors off!! I just ADORE the way she arranged the colors! It makes these zigs and zags SEW much more interesting!

This is a bit more of an advanced undertaking but she made incredibly good diagrams and directions so if you're feeling froggy, why not give it a go?? All it takes is one Sunnyside Jelly Roll and 4 yards of white for the background to get started! You can see the full instructions and directions for this quilt here!

Quilt-As-You-Go Baby Blanket & Pillow Tutorial!

I don't know about you but I am ALWAYS on the look out for super easy and adorable quilts that would be darling as baby gifts! There's just something about a new little one coming into the world that makes me want to just surround them in handmade things in gorgeous fabrics! Why not fill their world with color from the get-go right?! Well, this sweet and simple Woven Quilt Tutorial I found on the Riley Blake Cutting Corners blog (wonderful resource for projects by the way!) is a great design for doing just that!! Pick a favorite new fabric collection like Ladybug Garden by Doodlebug Designs or just a fabulous grouping of bright fabrics that you love together and you will have this little cutie created in NO TIME! And if you're REALLY in a time crunch...you can pick a Jelly Roll and half the cutting is done for you!

And if you REALLY want to impress the new mama, make her a matching Woven Throw Pillow to go with! Perfect for placing in her glider or rocker for a little extra cushion during those late night feeding and rocking sessions!  Shop our Ribbons & Trims for fun embellishment options! Or just make your own "ribbons" with strips of fabric!

These are just TOO cute! Love the look with Chevrons and how cute would it be to use a bright background fabric instead of white? Even navy or gray would look fab! If Mama already has a color scheme for the nursery picked out, just make sure to stay with shades of those colors! But really, ANY color combination or fabric collection will look adorable made up into a woven quilt for baby!

What fabrics would YOU love to see in this project? Maybe some Amy Butler?? I'm thinking YES!

Happy Sewing!

Make Gifts for Mother's Day at Sew Fresh Tomorrow Night!!!

Tomorrow night is indeed the 2nd Thursday of the month and that means its time for Sew Fresh again! This Sunday is Mother's Day and we all know that some of our most cherished gifts were handmade. If you haven't had much time to shop for Mom due to hectic schedules or just haven't found that perfect something, you should grab your sewing machine and come on out Thursday night, pick out some gorgeous Fabric and create something fabulous for Mother's Day!

Pick out a good variety of fabulous, standout prints in different shades (Field Study by Anna Maria Horner has some awesome prints to choose from) and maybe mix in a few coordinating solids like the new Cotton Supreme Solids we just got in from RJR or the Cotton Couture Solids from Michael Miller! Make a simple patchwork or strip quilt and you could have the top finished before you leave Sew Fresh!

Pajama bottoms are a great gift, especially if they are handmade in gorgeous and luscious fabrics like some of our Voiles!! Create Mom a soft and slinky pair of pj's with the Sleep Well Pattern by Favorite Things! You could even make her a matching eye mask or pillowcase to give your gift a bit of a theme! Pair it with some amazing lotion and Mom won't know what hit her this Sunday! And if you come on out to Sew Fresh tomorrow night, you could get the pants done no problem!

If the Mom on your list is a sewer, quilter or fabric crafter herself, we have lots of awesome small items that any creative gal would love to add to her stash! If she has little one's, get her the Cute Clothes for Kids book, with instructions for tons of adorable outfits for the kiddos! Grab her a couple of the Simply Color Ombre Junior Jelly Rolls if she is into modern quilting!

Collection Les Merveilles d’ Alice Pincushion - Polka Dots   Collection Les Merveilles d’ Alice Pincushion - Matryoshka   Collection Les Merveilles d’ Alice Pincushion - Whimsy

Or if you're not all that sure what to get Mom, grab her a little something small like one of these adorable Pincushions to pair with a Cabbage Rose Gift Certificate! She'll love to have some walking around money at her favorite quilt shop, plus who couldn't use another adorable pincushion??

Whether you want to create a completely handmade gift or you want to pick out some awesome goodies for a themed basket, we have you covered for great Mother's Day gift! And if you have some sewing to do to make sure you get all you presents complete, come on out for Sewing Night with the Sew Fresh Girls THIS THURSDAY NIGHT, 6-9pm!
