Quilt As You Go with Pat Bravo!!

It's Wednesday! And what better way to get us all over the hump than with a FREE PROJECT! Anytime I'm feeling a little lax in the inspiration department, I head over to Pat Bravo's blog! Her world is just filled with color and fresh ideas all the time and I just so happened to stumble upon this super cool, super perfect for Summer quilt-as-you-go color block table runner! In this project, Pat shows you how to attach blocks together that you have already quilted individually!

what you'll need:
  • Ten (10) 9¼" x 9¼" quilted blocks (Shop Moda's Bella Solids or Michael Miller's Cotton Couture for beautiful shades of solids!)
  • One (1) 1¼" x WOF strip of choice of fabric
  • Four (4) 1¼" x 19½" strip of same fabric chosen
  • For Binding: Three (3) 1½" x WOF strips of fabric chosen

This is such a fun idea because you use up scraps of batting that you would never utilize trying to use on a whole quilt at one time! And you can have some fun with your quilting like she did with those fun decorative stitches!

Once you have all blocks finished, time to lay them out and see how you like them! Seriously this can drive you crazy, but try and let it be the fun part! Mixing so many solid colors together you can honestly do no wrong, so trust your gut and GO FOR IT!

You can get Pat's full instructions over on her blog, Soulful Eyes! She also has linked to her binding tutorial so you can be guided step by step through creating the whole thing if this is a new type of project for you!

So where do you find inspiration? Link your favorite projects or resources! We'd love to check them out!! And don't forget to follow us on Twitter! We're getting a bit more active on there so pop in, follow us and see what's new with The Cabbage Rose!

Happy Creating!!

Urban Mod by Art Gallery Fabrics is here!!

I've got to say, when we get  shipment from Art Gallery Fabrics in, it's a little like Christmas around the Cabbage Rose! We are literally tearing through the boxes as fast as our fingers will let us to gaze upon the gorgeous prints of their latest groupings and especially, to touch it! Oh, because if you didn't already know, the element that truly sets Art Gallery apart is their totally delicious 100% Pima Cotton! Seriously, once you Feel the Difference, you'll never want to make clothing with anything BUT their fantastic fabrics!! Especially once you see the prints in the new collection Urban Mod!!

How cute is this top?? And it really doesn't look that difficult! Grab a simple shirt that you already have in non-stretch fabric and trace the outline of the garment onto some craft paper, freezer paper, Do Sew or whatever you have handy! Then, draw an asymetrical line on your pattern where you want the two fabrics to meet and cut it out (remember to add seam allowances!!) Then pick your two coordinating fabrics, lay the pattern pieces over the fabric and cut out your 4 pieces accordingly! Then you can piece the two front pieces and two back pieces together to create the full shirt shape again, then you're ready to sew them both together! Finish the sleeves, hemline and neck  easily by rolling the unfinished edges twice and stitching! Easy peasy yall!

One of my FAVORITE ways to bring some color and pattern into a room is with wall art and there's probably no easier, CHEAPER or cuter method than framing some awesome fabrics in varying sizes of embroidery hoops! It looks especially cute in a craft or sewing room but these fabric circles lend a modern look to any space so they are a great way to add some pizazz to a bedroom!

Any of the prints in this collection would be FAB as a flirty skirt for Spring!! Why not take Caroline's Perfect with Pockets Class THIS THURSDAY, 3-5pm and you'll learn how to create an adorable wardrobe basic that looks anything but, PLUS you'll get 10% OFF any fabric and supplies you purchase for the Class! Talk about a great incentive to learn something new!

Make a bunch of easy throw pillows in one print or do a little patchwork on one or two and accent with solids! Recover a chair, make some curtains, a Gum Drop Pillow...anything will be that much cuter dressed in Urban Mod!!

Love this simple yet stunning quilt design! Patchwork is an easy way for those with a modern aesthetic to experiment with quitling! AND, the folks over at Art Gallery have made this super cute pattern absolutely FREE!! You can download the PDF here!

And don't forget to check out their Inspiration Booklet for even MORE fun ideas for this lovely new collection! What do you want to make with Urban Mod??

I don't know if you know, but we are kinda in LOVE with Art Gallery Fabrics! If you haven't gotten your hands on these beauties then you are missing out! The feel of their cotton is so soft and luxurious you will hardly believe its quilting weight! These fabrics are simply FABULOUS for sewing skirts, dresses, tunics, tops and bags and really anything you'll be putting up to your skin often!! One of our favorite goodies brought back from Quilt Market this Fall were these delicious Color Story Bundles!! Each bundle comes with 10 or 12 assorted one yard cuts from various Art Gallery collections to create a beautiful new arrangement of fabrics that would be lovely together as a quilt, for redoing a bedroom, or creating a season's worth of super chic and standout skirts!! A great Christmas gift idea for a budding seamstress would be one of these fabulous Color Story Bundles in shades that she loves and a great fashion pattern that she can use over and over like Caroline's Simple Skirt or one of Pat Bravo's new patterns featured below!!

If you need more inspiration you should check out the amazing Ispirational Booklets that Art Gallery makes for some of their collections to really give you more creative perspectives to consider! They really think outside of the box and are using fabric to make life more fabulous at every step! You simply MUST check out the booklet for Rock n Romance! There are just SO many awesome ideas for you to try or to inspire you down your own creative road!!

These fabrics have been flying off our shelves since we got them and we've already reordered an especially popular print because it is just too gorgeous for words! You can shop the collection here!

The ladies at Art Gallery are just so incredibly creative and their booths at Quilt Market proved that over and over!! I was really digging the Rock n' Romance section, totally modern glam rock that looks as chic as it does cool!

And how about Bari J.'s new collection Splendor 1920?? Lovely and hip at the same time, I really am just crazy over that ruffle duvet comforter! It seriously would be the easiest thing to make, especially if you have a ruffler, the perfect starting point for an adorable room makeover!! But that would look adorable in any of your favorite fabrics!

How great are these designs?? We just love the inherent simplicity of each piece that still manages to shine with uniqueness and style!! It also helps when you're using some GORGEOUS fabrics to really make these beauties sing! Each pattern comes with full size pattern templates as well as indepth instructions via PDF!

But the Boho Dress goes a step further with an instructional DVD that will allow even beginners to go home and start stitching up a new wardrobe! You you'll be able to follow along with Pat by playing the DVD on your TV or computer, and watching her make both options of the dress, step by step, in real time! You basically get a private sewing class for the price of the pattern!!! All throughout the DVD there are super detailed graphics, definitions, and close-ups to help you truly understand and learn how to make the dresses! Plus it comes with the one sided, printed real size paper templates, so you just basically have to pop in the DVD, have your fabric, thread and sewing machine ready and you're good to start sewing the night away!

Any of these's new patterns plus a Color Story Bundle or a few yards from your favorite Art Gallery Collection would make a wonderful Christmas gift for any modern girl who's interested in sewing simple yet beautiful fashions for herself!! Or you could pick out your favorite Color Story, and make handmade gifts for all from the ladies on your list with those beautiful prints!! Definitely check out the Art Gallery Blog for great FREE PROJECTS ideas like these!

At Fall Market 2012!!!

We had an amazing and inspiring time at Fall Market this past weekend and we are just bursting with amazing things to share and show you!!! The creative wheels are turning in our minds as we are already dreaming up new projects and programs to offer to you that we are sure you're going to love, but we bet these images will inspire you to create something incredible of your very own!!! That's why we love going to see all the new ideas from these incredibly gifted and creative people, and spreading the beautiful wealth onto all of you!!!

The Moda Booth had some fabulous quilts made up with the bright and modern Bella Solids!! There's a fun and sort of whimsical simplicity to just using great solid colors in palettes that get your heart racing that makes for a special kind of quilt! Inspired to start playing with more solids when we get back from Festival!

And I just died over their adorable vintage trailer display!! Such a cute idea for showcasing the new Glamping collection!!

Sweet and simple, yet BOLD inspiration from our friends at Michael Miller! I love the idea of mixing some fabulous and bright prints for an oh-sew-easy strip quilt which you could make big enough for a lap quilt for cuddling up and watching movies, or a tad smaller for some amazing wall art!! Then add a bunch of throw pillows and some fab curtains and you've got a designer looking room that's all your own!!

Patty Sloniger's newest two collections for kiddos, one for girls and one for boys, was TOO cute! Last year her duo collections were Backyard Baby & Bella Butterfly and we think they are perfect for nurseries and all things your little ones will need!! I am especially fond of all the little ties she made with these super cute prints!! She has a great eye for color!!

And of course!! The amazingly talented Amy Butler's booth was nothing short of GORGEOUS!!! We are just so thrilled with where she is going, especially with her free, online magazine project Blossom that we got to hear a bit about in her schoolhouse but we'll share more about that a little later! Some of the Cabbage Rose girls even got to model for Amy's presentation and they had so much fun prancing around in her beautiful designs! Her incredible decor, fashion fabrics and quilting cottons for Alchemy are just SO beautiful!! We can't wait to get the rest of them when they release and for you all to see them!!

And Parson Gray's new line is too cool! Awesome for making everything for the stylish and rockin' men in your life! The color way still works with his first collection Curious Nature and they'd both be great for making quilts and home decor for your son's first form or apartment or your boyfriend's converted loft! Cool ladies would look chic as can be in skirts made out of these awesome prints! The earthy tones mix and match with everything!

Totally fell in love with Anna Maria Horner all over again! Here fabulous and funky designs are not only riddled with rich colors and textures, she truly is infusing her creative voice throughout every little thing she touches and as a result we're seeing a more complete aesthetic that looks more and more "Anna Maria" all the time! We're all really excited to get our hands on the new patterns she told us she was working on...and especially can't wait for her gorgeous new Rayons shipping in the next few months!! I am making the Musuem Tunic the minute they land in the shop!! In fact, she has tons of amazing FREE PROJECTS that I'd love to make, you should totally check them out!
We are really excited about Sew Liberated's new designs for the coming season!! They are doing something I think is an awesome idea and creating how-to videos for each of their patterns that you will be able to access online with a key code once you've bought your pattern, so it's basically like you have a private toutor showing you step-by-step how to sew your brand new dress, pants or whatever! How great is that???
I was really happy to see the modern and simple design aesthetic by Green Bee! This mother-daughter duo makes super super sweet clothing patterns for the little ones and modern ladies that are perfect for showing off your favorite fabric prints! Or you can keep your kids looking as sharp as ever in some sleek solids! Lots of the duds in their booth were made up in Alexia's (the daughter) hubby, Rob Bracroft's cute fabric collection MicroMod! What a talented family!
There are some BEAUTIFUL new collections from Art Gallery coming this year and we cannot WAIT to get our hands on them to start creating cute clothes, bags and more!! Art Gallery has this way with creating prints perfect for fashion and that inspire us like nobody's business!!!
Like this incrdible new collection by Bari J!!! Such lovely colors, interesting prints and the perfect balance of feminine and fun!!
If you love Black, White and Gray, you will absolutely LOVE Mystique by Lila Tueller from Riley Blake!! These prints are beautiful and sophisticated, making them wonderful for any occasion! Decorate a bridal shower or do a whole wedding in these beautiful fabrics! Totally blown away by Lila's black and white gown!! How perfect for a modern or contemporary wedding dress?
Never fear, the Chevron trend is STILL HERE!!! And for the season Riley Blake printed even more amazing colors and combinations and they are going to be so much fun to play with! We re-stocked a bunch of colors we were out of and got lots of their new offerings so we're all pretty excited for you guys to see what's new!
Cute booths to inspire you for some of the collections we've just gotten into the store!! The Simple Life & Polka Dot Stitches are adorable fabric lines from Riley Blake that would be perfect for making anything for little girls or just a space you really want to bring some cheer into! They'd also make precious quilts for many different occasions and obviously bunting, pillows, bags, skirts and more would look lovely in these threads!!

Well we hope we've left you excited for the coming season of fabric, patterns, kits and more!! We'll share even more fun stuff throughout the next few months so keep an eye out for more fun! And don't forget to share those creations with us!!! We wanna see what you're making!!
