Menagerie Bag Sew Along & FREE Pattern with Anna Maria Horner!

Who doesn't need an incredible new every day bag this Spring? I know I do, so when I saw this AWESOME new bag design by Anna Maria Horner I got a little excited...and then when I realized she worked with Janome to create a sew-along video, I got  A LOT more excited! This bag is fun and interesting and you can make it super feminine or ultra modern all depending on what fabrics you pick and how you embellish! The bag construction is fairly simple, leaving you even more time to make it totally your own with embroidery or whatever fun details you want! This bag is also, like, the PERFECT size. Enough room for carrying all the essentials plus extra space for a big water bottle or your design note book!

And it's a great project to use your favorite Anna Maria Horner prints that you've been hoarding! Or a great excuse to buy some of her fabulous new collection, Folk Song!

You can download the pattern and instructions here! But be sure to watch this video for helpful hints or if you're just a completely visual learn (like me).

Celebrate Spring with Violette by Amy Butler!

Currently on it's way to our shop...Amy Butler's latest victory! I'm not exaggerating when I say I think Violette is some of Amy's most inspired work! The colors and intricacies of her patterns in this collection remind me of when her fabrics first hit the markets and all you could think is that you'd never seen something like this before. While the essence of these fabrics still has a immediately identifiable Amy vibe, they still seem like something SO new and wonderful from her! I am just in awe!! GO GIRL!!

The colors and diversity in the patterns is totally refreshing and there's a perfect balance of eclectic, bohemian feels with feminine poise! I just think this would be a DREAM to redo a bedroom in. Start with painting your room a nice gray, light mauve or lavender for something subtle...pick one of the brighter colors for some punch or keep walls a clean white and let the fabric do the talking. Then create some new bedding, curtains and throw pillows! This line definitely screams new, fresh...totally Spring and Summer yet with all of those jewel tones and neutrals, I think I'd feel right at home surrounded by these prints all year! Especially with a stunning new quilt or duvet cover!

Can we talk for a minute about the Square Dance quilt? I don't know if I've seen a prettier one in a long while. It's totally a combination of just how gorgeous these prints are and the quilt design itself  isn't doing a thing to these fabrics except making them look their absolute BEST! I just love it. No other way to describe it. And what I love the most about it is it's FREE. Thank you Amy, thank you! Update your bedroom starting with this fabulous centerpiece!

Don't forget to shop Amy's Patterns for even more creative ways to use these fabrics. Everything from bohemian garments to cool bags to perfect pillows to accent your space!

Now check out this fabulous video from Fall Quilt Market in Houston last year as Amy shows you around her prize winning booth! Her concepts are always so beyond dreamy! I seriously want to LIVE in an Amy Butler Market booth one day, just sayin'...

We hope you love this line as much as we do! There are so many beautiful ways to use Violette and we can't wait to see what you create! Order your favorite prints today and we'll ship them out to you as soon as they arrive!

Spring Trends in Fabrics!!

I love seeing my favorite ideas & trends popping up in fabric collections coming into the shop! It's a great way to take inspiration and reimagine it to make sense in your own life!

For instance, I've been dying over this cute & kinda crazy statement wall DIY idea but stamping all those designs? Even on one wall, that's just a little more time than this busy lady has! AND I've forever been crushing on this springy Pantone shade, thinking I might be daring enough to paint a wall for a fresh look this season! BUT THEN...

Market Mix Citrus Turquoise  Market Mix Radish Pastel  Market Mix Lily Blue
Market Mix Lily Pink  Market Mix Awing Pink  Market Mix Citrus Brown

We got this fabulous collection from Martha Negley called Market Mix and this perfect little Clementines on Turquoise print was just sitting there in front of me as if to say, "hello...I am the answer to all your springtime décor questions!"

I am seriously considering using it as wall paper for my own interpretation of that statement wall! There's a lot of different ways to use fabric like this, but my favorite method? Folding it under at the ceiling and floor and securing it using decorative tacks! It's SO simple, requires NO sewing and you can manage it with only one pair of hands! That's what I call a win!

I got to see quilt blogger, Kate from Australia's quilt top in progress using these fabulous prints on Facebook and I just had to share! These colors, especially in this geometric design makes a super fresh statement for Spring. And this quilt will look gorgeous whether hung on your wall, draped over your bed or gracing the back of your sofa!

Patterns for Life - Zinnia Skirt by Colette Patterns

We have another incredibly versatile pattern to share with you today! The Zinnia Skirt is the very most recent design from Colette Patterns and I have to say, this is another one of those designs that lives up to "perfect pattern" status!

This skirt nips in at the natural waist then flows gently out over the hip and thigh area. That means it only requires one measurement to achieve a great fit – the waistline! Since the narrowest part on a woman's torso is the natural waistline, you'll be highlighting your curves creating a flattering silhouette for any body shape!

Every version and every size of Zinnia can be made with less than 3 yards of fabric. And how often are you able to use heavy, swishy or slinky fabric for the same pattern? By offering both a pleated and a gathered waist, Zinnia can be created from nearly any fabric in your stash! This pleated version is just fabulous for a work staple!
That also means you can modify it to suit any kind of weather. You’ll soon have a whole collection of seasonal separates, from pleated wool or Flannel for winter to gathered Voile for spring!

LOVE the look of the chiffon in the gathered waist version! Such a pretty look for special occasions! Especially when paired with a top boasting lots of texture like that sweater above! Swoon!

"Thanks...it has pockets!"

Said every single girl who gets complimented on her skirt or dress with pockets! Why? Because they're straight up AMAZING and USEFUL and LOVELY!! And why don't ALL dresses and skirts have pockets?? I mean, pockets are just about one of the top 15 best things in life and Zinnia has lots of pocket options to add to this already versatile design! Add that button placket and GET OUTTA HERE...you won't be able to buy a cuter skirt!

So pick up your copy of this wonderful pattern today! And shop the rest of our Colette Patterns for even more perfect Patterns for (real) Life!

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day (and Monday) everyone!! We hope you're enjoying gorgeous weather and the beauty of Spring on this wonderful day, remembering how amazing the planet that we live on truly is! Color and texture is all around us and we quilters, sewers and fabric crafters understand better than anyone that these are the small yet incredible things that bring us the most happiness and joy! So celebrate our world today by stopping and smelling those rose (or bluebonnets if you're lucky enough to find yourself in Texas), looking up at the sky just a little longer than usual or opening up the window in your sewing room and breathing the fresh air just a little deeper and with a LOT of thankfulness!

Sew Your Own Tank Dress with Caroline!

So, exactly 2 minutes after I posted yesterdays blog with super cute tutorials featuring Out to Sea fabrics by Sarah Jane, Caroline texted me that she was working on a project to post on her blog today using Out to Sea fabric as well!! Great minds really DO think alike! Or this collection is just certifiably AWESOME!! I think both are true so, moving on...who wants to make a TANK DRESS??

Actually, a better question would probably be who doesn't want to make a tank dress simply because less people would raise their hands and I get overwhelmed easily...okay, rambling OFFICIALLY over. This little outfit is super simple to put together and looks anything but! Perfect for throwing on for those last minute nights out with friends or just to look extra cute without any extra effort!

All you will need is:
A well-fitting Tank (Caroline's is from Target, $9)
About 2 yards of fabric,
Elastic thread & coordinating thread,
Scissors or rotary cutter & mat,
Ruler,
and Chalk!

Get the full tutorial over on Caroline's blog, Sew Caroline! She has TONS of creative DIY projects, style posts and more that you will be totally inspiring for you so go say hi!!
