After-School Sewing Series Success

Check out these AMAZING scarves that some of Caroline's After-School Sewing Students created yesterday afternoon!! They did such a good job and really were excited to see what they could make for themselves with a little patience and a few straight stitches! Love the fabrics they chose too!

Now these kiddos are equipped to make gifts for friends and family as well as a new scarf or two each year for themselves! Handmade gifts are always a little bit more special and now they can enjoy an entire creative process whenever they have an occasion for gifting! Getting them started on a sewing machine this early is a wonderful way to give them a useful, life-long creative outlet that can be used to make life a little grander!

We can't WAIT to see what they whip up next week! These kids are really excited to keep making and we're thrilled to see the joy of sewing in them so young!

Bekko Home Decor Sateens by Trenna Travis are HERE!!!

We are LOVING the new Home Decor Weight Sateens, Bekko by Trenna Travis for Michael Miller!! We got to see these fabrics ar Market this past Fall and thought they were just too perfect for words for house and home and we hope they excite you for your decor plans this season!! Classic and modern lines in everyone's favorite preppy hues make this collection perfect for recovering those old sofa cushions, creating fresh new drapes for the living room, giving your bedroom a modern makeover or even for making classic, well-wearing tote bags!!

If you have a plain and neutral couch then we think you need to LIVEN that baby up for Spring & Summer 2013!! Grab a few of these prints in a few colors and spend an afternoon with girlfriends sewing some simple pillow covers for your homes!! Given the heavier weight of these fabulous Sateens, they will withstand even the craziest of households! Dogs, kiddos, husbands...you need not fear with Bekko making up your home decor! Removable covers can go straight into the washing machine to make them look as good as new!! Try making a fancy statement piece like the Gum Drop Pillow to really punch up a room!! Caroline is teaching the Gum Drop Class again on February 28th from 5:30-9:00pm!

How about making some super simple and great looking curtains with one or two of these prints? I love the look of these DIY Curtains I found on the Vanilla Joy Blog, they seriously can be the perfect answer to your window covering problems for kids rooms, the living room, new apartments, dorms or wherever you need something colorful, graphic and totally chic! These prints in these colors are just too versatile!!

They are a slightly heavier weight than typical quilting cotton yet they still feel wonderful and they measure 54" wide! What would you like to make out of these awesome new fabrics?? Share your ideas in the comments!! AND don't forget to comment below on our GIVEAWAY post for a chance to win 4 yards of quilting cottons!!

Our February SEW FRESH Meeting is THIS THURSDAY NIGHT! There's also the Sit & Sew going on Thursday & Friday so we will be sewing with all the folks who decide to stay late on Thursday so we should have a full and fun classroom!! Come join us!!

We are Gum Drop Pillow CRAZY!!!

Okay so, we are all a little blown AWAY by this young lady right here! Katie is a kindergarten teacher who had never sewed a day in her life before last night when she decided to take Caroline's Gum Drop Pillow Class...she picked out her fabric (a rad print by Parson Gray, from the line Curious Nature), started cutting out her pieces and nervously began sewing as Caroline guided the class step by step. And this is what Katie ended up with...a super FAB floor pillow to enjoy in her home (and we think hubby will like it too!)

Are YOU anything like Katie?? Wanting to create amazing things for yourself or your home but just too intimidated by the machine or reading patterns?? Then you need to come to one of Caroline's amazing classes this Spring!

AND we just got in some INCREDIBLE decorator linens from Amy Butler's Alchemy Collection!! There are SO beautiful and easy to work with! The textures, colors and prints are all to die for! Would love to see some drapes out of these gorgeous fabrics!!

So are you inspired yet?? This year, we're all about serious creative business and if you've been wanting and wanting to do more sewing, making, whatever...we say, stop wanting AND START DOING!! Sign up for one of our incredible Classes (we have about a million right now so there's something for everyone) and push yourself in 2013! We bet you surprise yourself and us!!

Happy Creating!!

Support Brick & Mortar Shops, Visit Your Local Quilt Shop TODAY!!

Even though online shopping is amazingly convenient  we know how much you all LOVE being able to go into a physical quilt shop for ideas, inspiration, and information!! Not to mention to be able to see all the NEW Fabric's prints and color in person! The shades are never exactly right on our computer screens are they?? You really just can't beat actually being able to go into a brick and mortar shop in order to match or coordinate color palettes, compare print scales, or find that unexpected fabric that works just perfectly!

The tactile and sensory experience of being inside a fun little fabric haven is another element of the physical store that we couldn't imagine our lives without!! Seriously every time I walk into our store, even though I've walked through those doors hundreds of times, it's still so refreshing and inspirational! The color, the creations...you won't leave our shop without AT LEAST a dozen new project ideas! Browsing through our Patterns, there's about a 30 that I have on my wishlist and cannot wait to try! But sometimes getting all the supplies still isn't enough to get us motivated is it?

And that's where our Classes come in...a place where sewers can come and spread out with their machines and their projects and create with others is such a blessing and all of our students come away with new skills plus an invigoration for creating which is something all of us at the Cabbage Rose are very passionate about! Sometimes we just need someone else to say "YOU CAN DO THIS!" or to simply do it with us to get ourselves creating! And when you come to a Class at the Cabbage Rose, you get the support and direction you need to tackle that project that you've been wanting to try! The ability to create is so rewarding for everyone and we love seeing people's creative voice develop as well as being able to encourage others in their journey! Our teachers are especially gifted at this! With classes for kids who have never sewn before, aspiring quilters and handmade fashionistas, there's something for everyone!

We are so excited there's now an official day to celebrate just how fabulous it is to have a resource like a local quilt shop around and we hope all of you in the DFW area can make it to the Cabbage Rose today to celebrate with us! The Girls will be doing some fun DEMOS all day starting at 12pm so grab an early lunch with some friends and then come spend the day with us!! PLUS, our 15th Anniversary SALE is still going on so ALMOST EVERYTHING in the store is 15% OFF!!! Come see what's new in the shop, learn a cool technique or scoop up some new goodies for less TODAY for VISIT YOUR LOCAL QUILT SHOP DAY!!!
