Cabbage Rose Laser-Cut Appliques + a How-To Video!!

If you've been in the Cabbage Rose lately, you'll know that we've become a little obsessed with this amazing new way to do applique and let me tell you, we are running with it!! Our Laser-Cut Block of the Month programs are pretty simple:

First, we choose an amazingly intricate quilt that will knock your socks off as far as looks go (like these) but might give you a heart attack when you think about how much time they will take! At least that was always our reaction to them before we discovered this amazing method!!

Second, our color experts choose the most beautiful fabrics to try and recreate the look of the original quilts but with some fabrics that our own picks! Most quilts will look nearly identical to their originals and some we'll do our own thing! Especially with our kits, we love to play with color palettes so there's something for everyone!

Next we take all of the prep-work out of your end by making sure every single applique piece needed for the block that month will come laser-cut to perfection with fusible already on the back!! So here's what you might need!

Once you get your month's block or your new kit, all you'll have to do is prepare your background fabric, lay it over the template provided (making sure its centered!), peel the paper off the back of each applique piece and create the design!

Once all the pieces are in place, lay your pressing sheet over the entire design and iron! Then, you're all ready to start stitching those pieces to the background using your favorite method!! But, if you'd really like to see how easy it is, just watch this video!!

All the Cabbage Rose Girls are loving the looks of a super cute blanket stitch but you could totally do a straight stitch or a zig zag with your machine if you really want to get the project done!!! This method is really fun and easy even for beginning quilters and since you don't have to cut or pin anything, you will save SO much time!! Even Caroline who has never appliqued in her life decided to start My Whimsical Garden in Chocolate after making this video becuase she saw how easy and rewarding it was!!

Don't feel like tackling something so long-term? Try one of our Laser-Cut Kits for making your own quilt in a snap, embellishing a onesie, a book bag, tea towels, a wall hanging and much more! You could even make one of our kits a fun party activity like Karen's oldest grandbaby Ava!!

She wanted to have a cupcake making party so they created Ava's Bake Shoppe and everyone started the party off with decorating their own baker's aprons with our Hooterville & Bloom Laser-Cut Applique Kits!! Mom's can help iron and you really don't even have to stitch them down if you press them really well!! So you have a near instant craft project that's much cuter than it is effort! And there's not a huge mess to clean up!! After everyone made their aprons, they got to work on their baking and decorating their sweet treats! Fun!!!

How cute is that??? A perfect party theme that's creative and fun and best of all, not a lot of work!! You can use our Laser-Cut Kits for so many different things, your imagination is the limit! You can create wall art, decorate a bunch of different room accessories for a whole themed bedroom!

We're currently dreaming up TONS of new ideas for all sorts of Laser-Cut designs that we'll be wheeling out once we get back from Houston so keep watching our newsletter and website for the latest and greatest in Laser-Cuts!!!

At Fall Market 2012!!!

We had an amazing and inspiring time at Fall Market this past weekend and we are just bursting with amazing things to share and show you!!! The creative wheels are turning in our minds as we are already dreaming up new projects and programs to offer to you that we are sure you're going to love, but we bet these images will inspire you to create something incredible of your very own!!! That's why we love going to see all the new ideas from these incredibly gifted and creative people, and spreading the beautiful wealth onto all of you!!!

The Moda Booth had some fabulous quilts made up with the bright and modern Bella Solids!! There's a fun and sort of whimsical simplicity to just using great solid colors in palettes that get your heart racing that makes for a special kind of quilt! Inspired to start playing with more solids when we get back from Festival!

And I just died over their adorable vintage trailer display!! Such a cute idea for showcasing the new Glamping collection!!

Sweet and simple, yet BOLD inspiration from our friends at Michael Miller! I love the idea of mixing some fabulous and bright prints for an oh-sew-easy strip quilt which you could make big enough for a lap quilt for cuddling up and watching movies, or a tad smaller for some amazing wall art!! Then add a bunch of throw pillows and some fab curtains and you've got a designer looking room that's all your own!!

Patty Sloniger's newest two collections for kiddos, one for girls and one for boys, was TOO cute! Last year her duo collections were Backyard Baby & Bella Butterfly and we think they are perfect for nurseries and all things your little ones will need!! I am especially fond of all the little ties she made with these super cute prints!! She has a great eye for color!!

And of course!! The amazingly talented Amy Butler's booth was nothing short of GORGEOUS!!! We are just so thrilled with where she is going, especially with her free, online magazine project Blossom that we got to hear a bit about in her schoolhouse but we'll share more about that a little later! Some of the Cabbage Rose girls even got to model for Amy's presentation and they had so much fun prancing around in her beautiful designs! Her incredible decor, fashion fabrics and quilting cottons for Alchemy are just SO beautiful!! We can't wait to get the rest of them when they release and for you all to see them!!

And Parson Gray's new line is too cool! Awesome for making everything for the stylish and rockin' men in your life! The color way still works with his first collection Curious Nature and they'd both be great for making quilts and home decor for your son's first form or apartment or your boyfriend's converted loft! Cool ladies would look chic as can be in skirts made out of these awesome prints! The earthy tones mix and match with everything!

Totally fell in love with Anna Maria Horner all over again! Here fabulous and funky designs are not only riddled with rich colors and textures, she truly is infusing her creative voice throughout every little thing she touches and as a result we're seeing a more complete aesthetic that looks more and more "Anna Maria" all the time! We're all really excited to get our hands on the new patterns she told us she was working on...and especially can't wait for her gorgeous new Rayons shipping in the next few months!! I am making the Musuem Tunic the minute they land in the shop!! In fact, she has tons of amazing FREE PROJECTS that I'd love to make, you should totally check them out!
We are really excited about Sew Liberated's new designs for the coming season!! They are doing something I think is an awesome idea and creating how-to videos for each of their patterns that you will be able to access online with a key code once you've bought your pattern, so it's basically like you have a private toutor showing you step-by-step how to sew your brand new dress, pants or whatever! How great is that???
I was really happy to see the modern and simple design aesthetic by Green Bee! This mother-daughter duo makes super super sweet clothing patterns for the little ones and modern ladies that are perfect for showing off your favorite fabric prints! Or you can keep your kids looking as sharp as ever in some sleek solids! Lots of the duds in their booth were made up in Alexia's (the daughter) hubby, Rob Bracroft's cute fabric collection MicroMod! What a talented family!
There are some BEAUTIFUL new collections from Art Gallery coming this year and we cannot WAIT to get our hands on them to start creating cute clothes, bags and more!! Art Gallery has this way with creating prints perfect for fashion and that inspire us like nobody's business!!!
Like this incrdible new collection by Bari J!!! Such lovely colors, interesting prints and the perfect balance of feminine and fun!!
If you love Black, White and Gray, you will absolutely LOVE Mystique by Lila Tueller from Riley Blake!! These prints are beautiful and sophisticated, making them wonderful for any occasion! Decorate a bridal shower or do a whole wedding in these beautiful fabrics! Totally blown away by Lila's black and white gown!! How perfect for a modern or contemporary wedding dress?
Never fear, the Chevron trend is STILL HERE!!! And for the season Riley Blake printed even more amazing colors and combinations and they are going to be so much fun to play with! We re-stocked a bunch of colors we were out of and got lots of their new offerings so we're all pretty excited for you guys to see what's new!
Cute booths to inspire you for some of the collections we've just gotten into the store!! The Simple Life & Polka Dot Stitches are adorable fabric lines from Riley Blake that would be perfect for making anything for little girls or just a space you really want to bring some cheer into! They'd also make precious quilts for many different occasions and obviously bunting, pillows, bags, skirts and more would look lovely in these threads!!

Well we hope we've left you excited for the coming season of fabric, patterns, kits and more!! We'll share even more fun stuff throughout the next few months so keep an eye out for more fun! And don't forget to share those creations with us!!! We wanna see what you're making!!

Pretty NEW Prints from Blend Fabrics!!

We've just been bombarded with gorgeous new fabrics in the shop for the past few weeks so pardon all the fabulous inspiration pictures we'll be posting as a result!! We've especially taken notice to the gorgeous and unique fabrics coming our way from Blend Fabrics!!

I am so enchanted by this organic, watercolor inspired collection Alchemy by the wonderful artist, Shell Rummel. Her love of the transparent color quality of her paintings spills over into pattern making and we just love the unique result! They are a bit more abstract than the usual print, but that's the element that makes this collection standout as so special!

The cool and calming tones and prints are perfect for creating a bedroom retreat or a soothing nursery with a subtle and modern feel. These muted colors are fabulous for letting your heirloom wood furniture be a focus, which still bringing in a beautiful hint of interest.

Try this lovely and simple hexagonal FREE QUILT PATTERN, Arcadian to really show of these wonderful prints!

And how pretty is Bella by Amanda Murphy??? These prints are bright, bold and lots of feminine fun!! Both the Buttercream and Seagrass colorways are fabulous! Wonderful for scumptous quilts, pillows and more!!

And isn't the Bella in Bloom FREE QUILT PATTERN just darling? How could you not wake up in a cheery mood with this little beauty draped over you?! If you need to bring a little extra sunshine in during this year's dreary winter months, this is collection for you!

We just love when new sources of beautiful fabric come out and we can't wait to see even more of the beautiful things the Blend designers will be doing in the future!!

Fabric Feature: Rock n Romance by Pat Bravo!!

We are just enthralled with Art Gallery Fabrics this year! Those girls are creating some beautiful collections left and right with really fresh and unique color schemes and obviously so knock-out prints! And Rock 'n Romance, the newest set by Pat Bravo is absolutely no exception!!

My goodness, these purples are too perfect!! There hasn't been a ton of purple that we've loved out on the market but as soon as we pulled these bolts out of the box we were all ooh'ing and ahhh'ing! And the mixture of shades in purple, coral and gray is just a really fresh and feminine look!

How cute is this skull quilt?? With florals so fancy and colors so sweet, this look is anything but scary! Not ready to get that crazy? A simple strip quilt, patchwork or pinwheels would still be fantastic! That's the wonderful thing about fabrics, some are so great it doesn't matter WHAT you make!

Redo your rockstar's bedroom with a new quilt, funky throw pillows, cool and graphic curtains and maybe a fabric covered memory board or some wall art! You could even cover a lamp shade with one or more of these prints to bring even more color in! Love the quilt on the bed?? You can dowload the FREE PATTERN for the Star-Studded quilt here!

And they are obviously wonderful prints for fashion and accessories!! Pick your favorite bold print and make a simple skirt, a tunic or a dress...or...go REALLY crazy and make up your own design!!! Mix a few prints and create hip totes or makeup bags for all your girlfriends for Christmas!

Try this project I found on the Art Gallery Blog for a pair of rocking shoelaces that will make your sneakers really stand out! Great for young ones or the young at heart, make these Scrappy Patchwork Shoelaces and you'll give your everday kicks a little bit of attitude!

We LOVE the Circus & A NEW Giveaway!!

I have to say we are all kind of enthralled with the sweet new Circus prints from Michael Miller!! You remember the elephants they had stepping out in their fun new Dots at Market right?

Well now we can't get enough of the whimsical and fun imagery of the 'Ol Big Top!! And with these fabulous Circus prints in the shop, we're just having idea after idea of how to use them!!

With sweet performing tigers, elephants, seals and more, your little one will love cuddling up in a their Circus blankie made with just the Border Print for the top and a cute coordinate on the back for a really quick project, you could even use Minkee on the back for even more comfort! You could also break it up for borders or banners! Or how about using it to make a bumper pad or bed skirt??  I don't know a kiddo who wouldn't like going to bed in their very own big top, their bedroom or nursery decorated with Circus-themed curtains, bedding and maybe some cute wall art (breaking up the Panel and framing or wrapping around canvas would be SO quick and easy)! It would even be sweet to throw a little one's birthday party or baby shower decorating with these fabrics! Since they are just so bright and fun, we think they work for boys and girls! Clothing would OBVIOUSLY be adorable too!!
