Get Your Glow On! with Amy Butler

We can't help but GLOW playing with these new fabrics from our dear friend, Amy Butler! Her inspiration well never seems to run dry and we just love seeing the latest from her creative mind each season! This collection is a modern interpretation of Japanese folk prints paired with Amy's signature style and colors!

She's in the process of creating some brand new sewing patterns and she'll be releasing some knits and voiles from this line in Ocotber! We can't wait!!

Quilted Modern Art DIY!

While we all know quilting can be used for about a million different applications, it is becoming trendier all the time for fashion & home accents! My most favorite use of quilting in home décor is as wall art! There's just something so striking about seeing a quilt on a wall and with SO much inspiration from the modern quilting world, you can create fun, high impact art without too much time & effort! We found the tutorial for this awesome & simple piece on the A Beautiful Mess blog! Click the link for full instructions!

Supplies:-stretchers
-fabric (try Bella Solids, Cotton Couture or Weave!)
-thread
-lightweight batting sheet
-staples

Tools:
-sewing machine

-safety pins
-clamps
-staple gun
-fabric scissors
-craft blade (optional)
-painter's tape (optional)

Isn't this wonderful as a statement over a bare fireplace? I could see a piece like this gracing a wall in a dining room or over a couch too! Mandi from Making Nice in the Midwest even suggests using it as a headboard...what a great idea!! Create a little more impact with your quilted art by using a darker neutral like charcoal or navy! So many ways to elaborate on this idea and create incredible art of your very own! Try this project today!

I don't know about you, but to me the transition from Summer to Fall has me feeling especially creative and the inspiring minds at Art Gallery are helping give me even more wonderful ideas for a new feel this upcoming season!

Chérie by Frances Newcombe is a romantic fabric collection reflecting the lifestyle of a young, beautiful jetsetter who lives in a loft apartment in an urban setting but who loves botanicals, art and traveling! Who can't relate to craving a life like that? Well you can create the feeling exactly where you are by getting these fun fabrics in your life!

Create a fun and simple patchwork quilt with these lovely prints to begin to totally transform your bedroom! Create a duvet cover instead of a full quilt and make this room redo a weekend project. Add a new throw pillow to your chair or bed, easy curtains and cover the lampshade of that awesome mid century lamp you thrifted with your favorite fabric from the collection for a personal twist on a trendy look!

Love this Belles Parisiennes print for a table cloth, a shower curtain or even a mod dress! Make some quick art for your studio or guest room by framing a piece of this fabric. It would look awesome in a black, white, silver or gold frame! Use a frame you have and some spray paint if you want to get fancy...let's face it, this would look fantastic framed in metallic gold!

Capture the first sightings of a butterfly each spring, and wake up to the birds chirping outside your window. Winged by Bonnie Christine represents a season’s fresh beginnings and the dawn of a new day to spread your wings and let your imagination fly free!

Colors and motifs for dreamy & creative living! These textiles are feminine and free spirited so they'll make incredible clothes or home accessories for the young artist in your home! Make a painter's smock, a portfolio to store her projects, or a whole fort that she can keep up in her room full time to make things in!

Need to add some color to your stash? Nature Elements is a line of blenders with movement and shade variation that will add loads of interest and color where you need it! And Oval Elements is the perfect tonal for modern projects with its geometric motif. Use them to create fashion basics like button up shirts or A-line skirts in your favorite colors for handmade pieces that you won't be able to stop wearing!

More from Kid's Camp!

Here are some great progress pics from this year's Kid's Camp! Piecing that star was no trouble for Lindsey! Love the graphic look this gray, yellow & white quilt has!

Karen's grandbabies made their Kid's Camp debut this year! Here's Ava working away and Miss Lisa helping Maddie! If you look hard enough, you can see Kaitlyn! Even the twin boys bellied up to the sewing machine tables and made some awesome quilts, bags & pillowcases of their own!

Emily's blue, green & turquoise quilt bursts with color and impact! What a fun look she created for Summer! All of our campers got to pick out all their own fabrics so these quilts are truly their own! We love to encourage kids to be bold and choose what makes their hearts happy! Sometimes, we're a little worried when they bring up their assortments because as adults, we can't always SEE it. But they always blow us away with the final results! Kids get color like no one else!

We had such a good time sharing our sewing know-how with these young ones! Passing on traditions to younger generations is something we've always been so passionate about at the Cabbage Rose and that's why Kid's Camp is one of our favorite weeks out of the year!

Get your little one's creating masterpieces of their own next year! Keep your eyes peeled for info next Spring! Happy Quilting!

Kid's Camp 2014!!!

We just got done with another fabulous week of Kid's Camp! These cool and talented kiddos worked all week to create their very own quilt tops, pillowcases & drawstring bags! There's just something so rewarding about seeing a new generation learning sewing skills!

We had boys and girls in a wide range of ages and just look at how cute their creations are!

Everyone was SEW excited about what they made! I'm pretty sure we've got some sewing lifer's in this group! And what better to get your kids into at such an early age than the ability to make awesome stuff like quilts?!

We're so proud of our students! They all made such cool & colorful designs and picked out all their fabrics themselves! Giving kids the confidence to try new things and sew even more is our favorite thing about Kid's Camp! Seeing their excitement about what they have made and hearing them talk about wanting to make even more is the reason why we do this amazing camp every Summer! It's sew rewarding!! We hope your kiddos join us next year! Or get them started with something simple like our Pillowcase Kits! It's never too soon to start with sewing!

MORE PICS COMING SOON!
