Fig Tree & Co. Trunk Show!

We just got in the Fig Tree & Co. Trunk Show and it is SO beautiful! Joanna Figueroa, the designer behind this wonderful brand has really outdone herself with these latest beauties so come on in and see it all in person! There's nothing better than being able to see the finished product before purchasing a pattern! We now are stocking all the patterns for everything on display and here's a little rundown of what's new!

Vintage Skate     Winter Robin
Roman Holiday     Bountiful
(1, 2, 3, 4)

These are the first 4 patterns in a seasonal collection of 12 small wall hangings perfect for so many occasions in the vintage inspired home! A little piecing, a little applique and a little embroidery and you are on your way to creating your very own heirloom fabric art! Each image is inspired by Joanna's own collection of vintage stamps and post cards! The finished size of each of these wall hangings is 18 3/4" x 21" and you can get the fabric and other supplies requirements by clicking on each number below the patterns!

Stems Stems is the newest quilt design from Fig Tree and I have to say this one is by far my favorite! This fabulous quilt is just too sweet to pass up on! The cream background allows the beautifully pieced leaves to pop in a modern vintage way! You can make your leaves grow all in the same direction, alternate directions with each column, or mirror each row for 3 different looks! Grab 2 Jelly Rolls, a print for the stem, backing and binding, and cream for the background and you're on your way to this beautiful quilt!

Can be made in a lap size: 52" x 65"
or a twin size: 74" x 82"

Click on the pattern name for fabric requirements!
Daisy Girl

Daisy Girl is a pattern that Joanna has been wanting to do forever and after her daughter's own backpack fell apart, she had a reason to! And we're so glad she finally did! This sweet backpack is perfect for the kids to take to school or mom to take on errands! A great size for toting books, sleepover gear, toiletries or all of your everyday bag essentials! The simple and classic design makes this a timeless accessory that everyone will love so whip some up for friends and family as Birthday presents, Christmas gifts, Graduation or no occasion at all!

Finished size: 11" x 13"

Pillow Duet is a perfect way to freshen up any room in one afternoon and simple enough for any level of sewer! This pattern includes two sweet pillow designs, the Square in a Square pillow and the All About Buttons pillow...both would make a great statement on your favorite chair, couch or bed! All you need is a bit of background fabric and your favorite Charm Pack to start!

Finished sizes:
Square pillow - 18" x 18"
Rectangle pillow - 10" x 16"

With this Trunk Show we also got a bunch of samples of Joanna's last batch of designs! The Sit Upons chair cushion has been a huge hit and when you see some of the gorgeous quilts you can make with the Twinkle Booklet you'll have to grab a copy for yourself! Or if you'd like a simple project, the Peggy Sue bag is quick and easy!

The main quilt on the bed is Chintz & the quilt on the end is Kiss Me

So come on into the shop to catch this beautiful collection and get inspired to create some of these fabulous pieces yourself!!!

Patchwork Express Weekend!!

WOW!!! We just finished up our Patchwork Express weekend and boy, did we have a ball! With 8 bus loads of 50 ladies each, we had a constantly bustling store all day Saturday and Sunday! A HUGE thank you needs to go out to all the Cabbage Rose Girls for working so hard taking care of all our awesome customers! ESPECIALLY Alicia, for volunteering to prep all 3 of our meals and Pat O'Neill for cooking the oh-so-tasty, melt-in-your-mouth brisket, chicken and pork that kept us all constantly hungry! ;)

And last but certainly not least, THANK YOU to our awesome bus moms, Janine Hruska and Karen Gaither! These sweet ladies not only created gorgeous quilted name tags for all the women on our bus and all the workers in the shop, but kept everyone entertained with fun games and a great demo throughout the weekend!

Here's our bus playing a fun game on their way to one of the shops! Such a cute picture!

And here is one of the amazing name tags they made for us! I kinda want to wear mine all the time, it's just about the lovliest name tag I ever did see! Thank you again BUS MOMS!!!

I wish I could have gotten some more pictures of all the fun that went down in the shop throughout the weekend but ALL of us were the busiest of bees helping all of our new customers or prepping meals that we barely had a minute to sit down, let alone me getting to play photographer! But sometimes, being in the moment is SO much better than capturing it and that's what we did! We had the most fun with our door prizes as each winner was cheered on by the rest of the shop as if they just won American Idol! Everyone we met was so sweet and fun! It was such a wonderful feeling being surrounded by so many creative people and seeing them all enjoy our shop so much! We got so many compliments and we couldn't begin to thank everyone enough for making this weekend so magical!

Lines We're Loving: Mayfly Buddies!

We just got Mayfly Buddies by Tony Fernades into the shop and we're all pretty giddy over this one! It's a super sweet line for the little ones that comes in both girly & boyish colorways! The alphabet prints and sweetly illustrated bugs give off a feeling of fun and whimsy and the excitement of discovering the world! I would love to see this line gracing a sweet little nursery! You could create a baby size quilt (Baby's Block Party would be an adorable pattern to use), matching sheets (check out this awesome tutorial for making crib sheets), curtains, matching pillows and more!

Tony Fernandes even designed a free quilt pattern for this line which you can download here!
How do you plan to use Mayfly Buddies??

Get to Know: Veda Wilhite

Today we are kicking off a new series on the blog called Get to Know Us, in which we will be interviewing all the wonderful people who make up Cabbage Rose so that you can get to know a little more about us and why we do what we do!

First up, we have Veda Wilhite. Veda has been an important part of Cabbage Rose from the very beginning and has been a blessing and an inspiration to all of whom she comes in contact with! Read on to get a glimpse of how awesome this lady is! I'm sure you'll fall in love with her!

Q. Tell us everything you do at Cabbage Rose.
VW. I teach hand quilting and hand appliqué.
Q. What are your crafty specialties?
VW. At this moment in time, quilting, writing, and scrapbooking.

Q. How did you get started with quilting, creating, etc.

VW. I have always been blessed with an eye for color and the ability to use my hands.  I didn’t seriously take up quilting until Jan. 1990 because I thought it took too much time.  Boy, was I wrong!  Needless to say, all the other creative activities went by the wayside when I started quilting.
Q. What inspires you?
VW. I get my inspiration from the Lord.  Every time new fabric arrives at the Cabbage Rose, the wheels start turning in my head.
Q. Your fondest sewing/quilting memory.
VW. My fondest quilting memory is playing under the quilt hanging from the ceiling as my grandmother, my aunts, and their friends quilted.  It was such a wonderful feeling of love and security.  Seeing these beautiful quilts that arose from scraps of fabric instilled in me a love for quilts that never went away.
Q. Your fondest memory of Cabbage Rose
VW. My treasure chest is so full of wonderful memories of Cabbage Rose that it is very difficult to pick the fondest.  We never went anywhere or did anything “normally”.  Therefore, the years were full of so much fun and laughter.  Probably the most memorable was our first trip to the Houston International Quilt Festival.  Picture this…car loaded down…Karen, “Which way to Houston?”…Veda, “South, that’s all I know.”…we head south with no clue how to get there…lose poor Shea, who was driving a truck loaded down, just one block from the store…finally reach Houston after dark…can’t find motel…pull in parking lot to read map…not a good idea…it’s the parking lot of a bar…continue on the road…find phone booth in the middle of nowhere to call motel…finally find motel…forgot to tell Shea which motel.  Need I say more?  I have loved every minute!

Q. Any special “just for fun” projects you are working on…
VW. After making a couple of small albums telling about the inspiration and making of a wedding quilt and a baby quilt to present with the quilts, I was hooked.  Now, I am weeding through my photos and writing about our family history for the generations to come.  Not only will the lessons of life be sewn into my quilts, they will also be in the albums.
Q.What is your guiltiest pleasure?

VW. CHOCOLATE !

Q. Any words of wisdom for beginning sewers/quilters?
VW. Don’t spend so much time trying to figure out what is right or wrong.  Put your heart and soul into every quilt you make.  With every loving stitch you put into your quilts you are keeping our rich heritage of quilt making alive.

A Pretty-fied Tutorial!

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to a brand new week! I hope all of you Mamas out there got a little special treatment yesterday and got to spend some quality time with family!

Well, today I was searching for some fun home decor ideas as I am doing a little redecorating and found a tutorial that I'm going to be trying ASAP!

I found the Pretty-fied Sheet Set by Mickey and April on the Moda Bake Shop blog and let out a little squeel of delight when I saw it! Aren't these just SO lovely? I love the idea of creating a quilt or duvet cover for a bed and sprucing up your neutral sheets with some coordinating fabric to match! You could really add that extra punch to a room with this pretty touch!

And aren't they just the sweetest all tied up? I think this would make a wonderful wedding shower, home warming or off-to-college gift or you could use some brightly colored twin size sheets with some fun prints for decorating a kiddo's room! Since this is a project that doesn't require tons of fabric (all you need is a charm pack plus an additional yard and quarter to do a queen size sheet set) you can whip up a set for any occasion!

You can get the full recipe with lots of great pictures and instructions here!

Patchwork Floorcloth Class!

We've got a fun new Class to tell you all about today! It's the Patchwork Floorcloth Class taught by Susan Howell and we're all super excited about this one! Floorcloths are a traditional floor covering dating to before the Colonial Period. They were traditionally painted or stenciled on for decoration but, now you can create this adorable "quilted" floorcloth to match any room in your home with absolutely NO SEWING! These make great bath mats or kitchen rugs as they just take a wipe to clean and are super durable! Join the fun as Susan explains the history behind floorcloths and guides you step by step through the process! The price of this class is $65 and includes ALL supplies needed except for your fabric! Your finished floorcloth with measure 24" x 32" which is perfect for right in front of the stove or a sink! Check out these fun examples that Susan made! They're sure to get you inspired for this class!

I love that you can make a big impact with only one fabric!

Or you can create a more scrappy look with several prints! We're all super excited to take this class ourselves and we hope you will join in the fun too! Click here to check dates for this class and to sign up!
