Candy Stars Tutorial! Use those Mini Charm Packs for a Fab Mini Quilt!

 

 

We're LOVING this new Candy Stars tutorial on the Moda Bake Shop Blog! Chrissy Lux of Sew Lu Fabric got into her candy stash to create this modern and classic design using Moda's Candy pre-cuts...which are adorable Mini Charm Packs! This mini quilt using fun 2.5" x 2.5" squares is a perfect project for using modern solids or for playing with a fun new collection of prints!

 

 

 

 

Besides being abnormally adorable (who doesn't LOVE TINY THINGS??), Mini Charm Packs are really affordable and easy to collect! For this project, you'll make two blocks - a variable star and a simple 4 patch and you'll need 76 mini charms. BUT you can easily adapt this design to be any size you want, just add some more pretty candy!!

 

 

 

 

If you're using solids, get your colors sorted and separated! Then start working on the placement for you 4-patch squares...those go together SO quickly!

 

 

 

LOVE this 9 patch! Simple yet high impact is achieved with color selection!!

 

 

And it looks just as magical in a scrappy style with some pretty prints!! So if you've been eyeing these cute little pre-cuts, now you've got a great excuse to grab a few packs next time you're at the shop! OR shop all our of mini charm packs online! Sunnyside Diamond Zig Zag Quilt Tutorial

 

 

Every once in awhile I see something just fabulous on the Moda Bake Shop blog and this recipe by Janice Ryan of the Better Off Thread blog definitely caught my eye! Using a super convenient Jelly Roll from Kate Spain's newest collection, Sunnyside (PRE-CUTS ARE IN STOCK!) she created this stunning, diamond pieced chevron quilt that is just blowing my doors off!! I just ADORE the way she arranged the colors! It makes these zigs and zags SEW much more interesting!

 

 

This is a bit more of an advanced undertaking but she made incredibly good diagrams and directions so if you're feeling froggy, why not give it a go?? All it takes is one Sunnyside Jelly Roll and 4 yards of white for the background to get started! You can see the full instructions and directions for this quilt here!

Quilt-As-You-Go Baby Blanket & Pillow Tutorial!

 

I don't know about you but I am ALWAYS on the look out for super easy and adorable quilts that would be darling as baby gifts! There's just something about a new little one coming into the world that makes me want to just surround them in handmade things in gorgeous fabrics! Why not fill their world with color from the get-go right?! Well, this sweet and simple Woven Quilt Tutorial I found on the Riley Blake Cutting Corners blog (wonderful resource for projects by the way!) is a great design for doing just that!! Pick a favorite new fabric collection like Ladybug Garden by Doodlebug Designs or just a fabulous grouping of bright fabrics that you love together and you will have this little cutie created in NO TIME! And if you're REALLY in a time crunch...you can pick a Jelly Roll and half the cutting is done for you!

 

 

 

And if you REALLY want to impress the new mama, make her a matching Woven Throw Pillow to go with! Perfect for placing in her glider or rocker for a little extra cushion during those late night feeding and rocking sessions!  Shop our Ribbons & Trims for fun embellishment options! Or just make your own "ribbons" with strips of fabric!

 

 

These are just TOO cute! Love the look with Chevrons and how cute would it be to use a bright background fabric instead of white? Even navy or gray would look fab! Fig Tree & Co. NEW Pattern Showcase!!

Painted Ladies is a beautiful pattern that started as a table runner, then ended up being turned into a bed runner, then found its way to its most beautiful incarnation, the quilt! These beautiful butterfly blocks are so whimsical and charming, I can see wanting to bring that block onto say, a matching pillow or even a triptych of wall hangings! I mean, who doesn't LOVE butterflies??

 

 

This might just about be the easiest and cutest bag Fig Tree & Co. has ever come up with! The One Piece Bag is literally one rectangle with a handle loop sewn to it while it is still flat. It is then folded up and the 2 side gussets are pinned in and sewn. That's it! True story. Plus its a great size, you can make the handle long or short depending on how you like to carry your bag and the only hardware used was a magnetic snap and bag "feet" so that it doesn't get dirty when you set it down. That's it! The above version is Joanna's personal bag, SEW pretty right?? 

 

 

 

And if you're really looking for something to cheer up your Summer, make this adorable Cherry Pie Quilt!! Gather up some beautiful shades of red and green for your cherries and stems, some white background fabric and start creating this cheery design! Hang it on your dining room wall to really lighten and brighten up the space! Use vintage buttons from your grandma's collection or little snaps you have on hand to finish these cuties up!

Modern Hexagon Quilt Made with Moda's NEW Honeycomb Pre-Cuts!!

 

 

We just got in the brand new pre-cuts that Moda just released! Honeycombs are stacks of 40 pre-cut 6" diameter hexagons which you can piece together in a variety of combinations to make interesting, graphic and modern quilts! They started with several popular shades of Bella Solids and created this amazing quilt tutorial on the Moda Bake Shop Blog to get our creative juices pumping!!
