Get Romantic with Flora from Joel Dewberry!

 

Joel Dewberry is one of our longtime favorites for modern prints that will make a living space pop and standout in a wardrobe. Or this bright and graphic Stepping Stones Quilt...an amazing addition to the end of your bed or in place of a headboard! I've been noticing lots and lots of pretty textile art being used as creative headboards and quilts take the cake as my favorite option! Imagine how pretty this would be with an all white bed set...save a few handmade matching pillows. ;)

 

 

 

 

This Patchwork Pillow is a little more basic but still, in these fabrics it makes a great statement. It adds so much warmth to that white sofa too, don't you think? And I dig that bit of a boho vibe that patchwork in bright and bold prints always gives me. Like in that ONE bedroom everyone on facebook DIED over. So good.

 

 

 

Another fabulous quilt design, the Floral Dance Quilt reminds me of abstract art or an optical illusion. And with that mod border, it really takes on a groovy vibe!

 

 

 

 

Who doesn't need a new "every day" bag? This Pocket Tote is a spacious design for when you're out running errands, commuting with the kids or you have a long day of gym, work, happy hour ahead of you. Bring your extras along in style...I think it would look incredible with the whole body of the bag in that graphic Aztec print and going for dark brown leather straps. You could repurpose some old belts (first learned that trick from Amy Butler), or you visit your local Tandy or leather crafting store. You can find small pieces in reasonable prices. Just make sure you get a needle for leather to sew it using your machine!

 

 

 

 

Speaking of Amy Butler, I found a few more projects that she designed for Violette that I wanted to share! The Around the World Pillow is an awesome accent to any living space. Use it as a floor pillow, extra seating for a party or even use it as a dog bed.

 

 

 

City Squares is a cool graphic quilt that looks incredible in jewel tones and white! I wonder if the lighter prints in the collection would look good with a gray background...

Fat Quarter Project with Urban Mod!!

 

 

As you all know, we all go pretty bananas over Art Gallery Fabrics! And it's not just because of their gorgeous color ways and totally hip designers putting out the freshest looking prints around...their fabric just feels different! It's so soft and luscious, you can't help but want to rub up against these fabulous fabrics which is why we adore them for fashion projects but they are too good to stop at our wardrobes! These are the types of prints and colors you want to be surrounded by, so I may have squealed a bit upon seeing this Fat Quarter Gang project on the Art Gallery Blog!!

 

 

 

Utilizing a store bought shower curtain, you can give it a completely "unique to you" look without having to buy TONS of yardage!

 

What you'll need:

12 - fat quarters of Art Gallery Fabrics (Urban Mod Collection)

a cotton standard shower curtain measuring 72"x72"

coordinating thread

sewing pins

rotary cutter/mat/ruler

cardboard or card stock for making the triangle template, marker, scissors

 

 

 

 

I just LOVE the modern look of adding this patchwork panel to a shower curtain and its just SEW SIMPLE! What a way to add some punch to your bathroom! How awesome would it be to make this cool shower curtain, then sew some fabric strips in your favorite of the fabrics to some coordinating towels to make a matching set? You can sew them to the natural band that comes on most towels in the same way you attach the patchwork panel to the curtain. I think it would be a great Dorm Warming gift for any College Freshmen who will be going away this Fall!

Fabric Feature: The Ladies' Stitching Club

Let me introduce you to The Ladies’ Stitching Club by Liesl Gibson of Oliver + S. When she's starting out with a concept or idea for a new collection of fabrics, Liesl will begin telling herself cute little stories about them in order to flush out everything she wants them to embody! I think that's such a cool design process and the story of these prints has all of us pretty tickled! Maybe because it sounds a lot like how women get involved with the Cabbage Rose!! 

The Ladies’ Stitching Club is the story of a young woman who dreamed one night of a gorgeous blouse. It was covered with embroidery and wonderful details that she had never seen before. When she awoke the next day, she couldn’t stop thinking about the blouse. After several days of pondering this wonderful creation, she decided that she’d better learn to sew so that she could make it for herself.

After asking around for a while, she was referred (I’m sure it was her local quilt shop that did the referring, although that’s not part of the story) to an elderly woman who had worked for many years as a seamstress. The two women hit it off immediately, despite the different in their ages, and they struck up a friendship that went well beyond their sewing lessons.

Soon, other women heard about the lessons and wanted to join. Before they realized what was happening, a strong, supportive community of like-minded women had developed, and their shared interests went far beyond sewing and embroidery. They threw garden parties and tea parties for no particular reason, visited museums together, and spent their time volunteering in the community. The result was a network of women who supported each other through hardships, who celebrated their victories, and who became lifelong friends.  All with a sense of humor and a freedom to be themselves, no matter how eccentric and usual that might be!

The Ladies’ Stitching Club came together in three colorways: Tea Party (pink, plum and gold), Garden Party (red, gold and blue), and Solarium (plum, blue and green). The prints, as you can see, have lots of stitching and garden motifs, and maybe a few drawing room and solarium motifs, too! 

I am especially LOVING these sweet  border prints!! With a sweet mix of gingham, floral and stitches, they're perfect for gracing the bottom of a million different projects!!!

They're absolutely perfect as, what else, QUILT BORDERS!!! Liesl even designed this darling triangles quilt for this collection and is offering it to everyone for FREE!! You can download it right here!! 

 How about creating a simple half apron and embellishing with a little chicken scratch? This is a fun way to embroider for those just learning since you have the gingham as a guide! No fuss, no patterns, no muss!! We like it when things are sew simple! I think I might bust out some Cosmo Embroidery Thread or Finca Perle Cottons and start my own!!

Or how about trying your hand at smocking?? This fun technique creates such a cute finish, perfect for little girl's skirts and dresses galore!!

Also!! A super cute project for any of these beautiful prints is this sweet and simple summer sunhat for your fair-skinned little ones! Download this free pattern to make one (or more!) for your last trip to the beach or anytime the kiddos will be out in the sun! Ranger games, a day at the park, hiking or wherever your adventures take you!

Make Something That Counts with Ten Little Things!

All of the Cabbage Rose shoppers have been going nuts over Ten Little Things by Jenn Ski, the perfect NEW collection for little boys. Her little owl and truck illustrations are too cute for words and just perfect for a nursery or a even a young boy's bedroom! Or if you just want a little bit of this line's cuteness, how about making this super sweet On the Go Baby Boy Quilt!

I found the recipe for this little cutie on the Moda Bake Shop Blog and I think it's a great way to use these colorful prints!

All you need is:

 2 Ten Little Things Charm Packs

1 1/4 Yards of Solid White for Quilt Top Background

1/2 Yard for Applique and Binding (30505 40 - Navy Stars was used in the sample)

1/2 Yard for Borders and Pieced Back (30504 17 - Lime Dots was used in the sample)

1 1/2 yard for backing (30501 19 - Grey Trucks was used in the sample)

We saw the ever-so-cute Dottie Quilt by Cluck Cluck Sew made up with Ten Little Things at Quilt Market this Fall and it was too cute! You can create this quilt with Layer Cakes and Fat Quarters so grab some pre-cuts and save yourself some cutting time! You can grab the pattern and get the Fabric Requirements for this quilt here!

And of course there's the Numbers Quiet Book FREE PATTERN that you can create with a panel and the too-cool-for-school Chalk Cloth! This is a great way for little ones to practice drawing their numbers and a fun way for them to occupy their time on all those Summer roadtrips you have planned!

There's a lot of fun uses for Chalk Cloth outside of this project, Caroline used it to make this super cute bunting that would be fabulous for any occasion! You can change it up with the seasons or for parties! Just draw yourself a template (any shape you want) and trace onto the cloth with chalk (what else?), then cut your bunting out, use a hole punch and ribbon or fabric scraps to hang and your done! Easy peasy!

The wait is finally over...SOUL BLOSSOM by Amy Butler is HERE!!!

We just received her absolutely stunning quilting cottons and let me tell you, everyone in the shop was drooling over the bolts even while they were still wrapped in plastic! This line is by far my favorite of Amy's work, the patterns and colors are bolder and brighter than anything she's done so far! I'm getting a million ideas just looking at these beautiful prints! And what's more, Amy has released some new FREE projects inspired by this gorgeous line that I'm just dying to try!

How awesome are the yo-yo's on the Bloom Quilt? It reminds me of something you'd see at Anthropologie! And I'm just in love with the piecing of the Sunshine Quilt, to die for!! (Click the names to download the free patterns)

And if you're a beginning sewer, try your hand at making a pair of Patchy Jeans! A surefire way to liven up even the oldest pair of Levis and use fabulous fabric at the same time! Can't beat that with a yard stick! ;)
