QuiltCon LOVE!

Well we had such a fun time over this weekend at QuiltCon and enjoyed meeting everyone so much! Thanks to all those who stopped by the booth to hang out with us! We hope you all had an inspiring and fun time too!

Say hi to some of our amazing friends from Riley Blake Designs! And just look at that gorgeous butterfly dress they created. Talk about magical!

Nothing says modern like solids and Robert Kaufman was serving 'em up in true modern quilt style! Just look at all those amazing designs and not a print in sight! You can get some of their gorgeous Kona Cottons right here. I know you're thinking you're next project is gonna be all SOLIDS.

This booth is nothing short of a FIESTA of color! Michael Miller Fabrics has been putting out some of my most favorite prints as of lately and their booth certainly did not disappoint! I'm really just bananas over that all solids quilt. It reminds me of the Eduardo print from the Fiesta Collection and I really love the tribal feel of both! Keeping the design simple gives it the modern edge.

Loved the simplicity and industrial touches in the Moda Bake Shop Booth! Seriously serving some fresh ideas for interior design along with cool project ideas and Moda's signature Pre-Cuts. I mean, how cool are those light fixtures?

Windham Fabrics is looking as modern as ever with that mosaic of quilt blocks in drawn frames statement wall! I kind of LOVE this idea. Quilt block design looks so much like abstract art already, so you can add some serious look to your space with a wall of blocks of your own creation! Want even more ideas for using quilts in modern décor? This post has some incredibly inspiring spaces featuring quilts.

Prints can be modern too! It's all about the color palette. And this one is working. Great neutrals with pops of lavender, soft teal and chartreuse...dreamy!

Looks like everyone was having a blast! If you didn't get a chance to go, I hope you enjoyed our little peak into the show! Luckily for everyone, QuiltCon is becoming a yearly happening and will be held in different cities each year so check if one is coming to a city near you. 2016 & 2017 dates are confirmed!

Let's Have a Fiesta!!

It's a PARTY OF COLOR in the new Fiesta Collection from Michael Miller Fabrics! If you love bright and rich colors intermingled with intricate and inspired prints, this line will get your engines going!

I am really feeling this chocolate colorway! Create a rich new bedroom full of these gorgeous prints or decorate tables for a Cinco de Mayo party!

And of course these fabrics are awesome for creating bohemian handmade clothing! A tunic in one or two prints with accented with little embroidery floss made tassels would look fabulous over some skinny jeans and desert boots! Skirts and dresses will look amazing in these standout prints too.

Use these prints to make this cute and modern FREE QUILT PATTERN, Caja de Colores designed by Rob Appell. The brights against a light, neutral background really pops. But can you imagine how rich this would look with a chocolate background? Delicious!

Grab a few 1/2 yards of your favorites from the collection and create some cool, boho accessories for this Summer! You can keep your outfits simple and modern in clean neutrals and add fun pops of color with a few bold accessories! Make a cool fold over clutch with a print and a matching solid or two prints. Or create a fabric statement necklace! There are lots of fun fabric bauble diy's out there!

Recognize this adorable quilt design? We shared this exact design in cute Valentine's themed fabrics here and it was created by Tamara Kate! This is a really versatile quilt pattern and looks amazing in tons of different fabrics!

Now we have this amazing Eduardo print in all the colors and I'm SEW EXCITED about it. They are just so fresh and on trend and they can totally look modern and bohemian at the same time! I love these cool floor pillows made with burlap on the back and twine tassels!

What a festive table! Make a gorgeous table cloth and coordinating tablemats or cloth napkins and throw a dinner party to share a Farmer's Market haul this Summer! Or if you're a gardener, invite your neighbors over for a barbeque featuring your home grown grilled veggies and handmade décor!

Fiesta Forever is another fabulous Free Quilt Pattern designed by Heidi Pridemore! This quilt is super versatile that will look amazing in any collection you choose, but it's SO much fun in this line!

Get the party started this season with Fiesta!!

Catch a Wave with Sea Buddies!

I feel like I'm on vacation just looking at these fun inspiration shots using NEW Sea Buddies fabrics from Michael Miller. Everything from the fish to the sea turtles to the umbrella stripes, these prints are cheery and happy and perfect for Summer!

Have you ever done this too a shirt? Its SEW easy! You can either print off the word you want to use with a thick font (in a REALLY large size) and trace them onto your fabric. Cut them out, pin them to the t-shirt and stitch around by hand or machine. Super simple and looks really cool!

These little patchwork shorts are just the sweetest!!! You could even work in some coordinating solids to add bigger pops of color!

Update your beach towels with a fun fabric stripe accent and maybe some cute pom poms! Cute new stuff can be made with very little fabric, just think outside the box!

But if you're wanting to go big and create an adorable sea themed quilt, there are 2 FREE PATTERNS you can download on the Michael Miller Fabrics website. Here and here.

Enjoy! And Happy Sewing!

Fabric on the Walls!

Lately I've been obsessed with the idea of using fabric in non-traditional ways. And a project I keep coming back to is using fabric as wall paper. It's a cool way to add some serious interest to a space, whether you cover all your walls or just one focal wall, like in this closet redo I found on the Young House Love blog. It's totally cute for this young lady's play closet!

All that was used in this project was fabric, staples, fabric glue and a little ribbon to cover up all the edges and seams, which wouldn't be too much damage on the walls for those who are renting. It's a simple and great looking addition to a space.

I also found this example on the Numbered House blog. She uses liquid starch to hang her fabric which is another great option for renters who need to leave their place in tip-top condition.

If you don't want to spend too much on the fabric to cover an entire wall, create some easy fabric art by grabbing a large piece of plywood from the local hardware store and staple your favorite print around it. Use 2 or 3 thin pieces to put side by side...you can keep them level or stagger them for interesting movement. You could also use a canvas stretcher frame or make your own to cover. See how Lia made this one on her blog!

You could always just cover a door...how cute is this? The width of standard doors is more narrow than quilting cotton widths so you just have to buy the length of your door in yardage. No math required! Found this one on the How About Orange Blog. SO CUTE.

Get Romantic with Flora from Joel Dewberry!

Joel Dewberry is one of our longtime favorites for modern prints that will make a living space pop and standout in a wardrobe. His latest collection, Flora is no exception...fresh, lovely and perfect for Spring! Get inspired with these fabulous FREE PROJECTS designed especially for this collection. Like these Vine of Roses & Tip Toe Through the Tulips Pillows which are simple, yet interesting designs that add a refreshing dose of color to a neutral couch!

Or this bright and graphic Stepping Stones Quilt...an amazing addition to the end of your bed or in place of a headboard! I've been noticing lots and lots of pretty textile art being used as creative headboards and quilts take the cake as my favorite option! Imagine how pretty this would be with an all white bed set...save a few handmade matching pillows. ;)

This Patchwork Pillow is a little more basic but still, in these fabrics it makes a great statement. It adds so much warmth to that white sofa too, don't you think? And I dig that bit of a boho vibe that patchwork in bright and bold prints always gives me. Like in that ONE bedroom everyone on facebook DIED over. So good.

Another fabulous quilt design, the Floral Dance Quilt reminds me of abstract art or an optical illusion. And with that mod border, it really takes on a groovy vibe!

Who doesn't need a new "every day" bag? This Pocket Tote is a spacious design for when you're out running errands, commuting with the kids or you have a long day of gym, work, happy hour ahead of you. Bring your extras along in style...I think it would look incredible with the whole body of the bag in that graphic Aztec print and going for dark brown leather straps. You could repurpose some old belts (first learned that trick from Amy Butler), or you visit your local Tandy or leather crafting store. You can find small pieces in reasonable prices. Just make sure you get a needle for leather to sew it using your machine!

Speaking of Amy Butler, I found a few more projects that she designed for Violette that I wanted to share! The Around the World Pillow is an awesome accent to any living space. Use it as a floor pillow, extra seating for a party or even use it as a dog bed.

City Squares is a cool graphic quilt that looks incredible in jewel tones and white! I wonder if the lighter prints in the collection would look good with a gray background...

How cool is this Woven Pillow? This is a super cool statement piece and an awesome project to add to your archives! Imagine what you could do with a gradient of solids! Make this baby and add some serious handmade magic to your home.

Valentine's Quilts we're Crushing on!!

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and I have been spotting so many adorable quilt designs for the holiday of LOVE! Make one for your daughter or sister this Valentine's Day or put one together for yourself to bring out every year at this time! Lots of Love by Tamara Kate is simple and graphic! I love how she used darker prints for the hearts at the bottom and they get lighter as you go up! That pop of aqua is pretty adorable too!

Tamara Kate designed Lots of Arrows as well and this one gives me a sweet and charming folk art vibe, especially with the scrappy fabric mixing! I just really love the scrappy gray background too! You honestly don't need Valentine's themed fabric to make these themed quilts...just get all the pinks, reds and maybe one accent color out of your stash and start playing around!

Big Love was designed by Modern Handcraft and she was kind enough to share a tutorial! I love the graphic element of this quilt and it's really minimal sewing required for how big the impact is! A great project for solids!!

I Heart Chevrons is such a cute stripe design, also dreamed up my Modern Handcraft! And it's another quilt you can totally use your stash to make! Think of how stunning this would look with a black or gray background...use the original design for inspiration and try experimenting with your favorite fabrics! I honestly think ANY of these designs would be adorable any occasion quilts made up in your favorite collection of the moment.

Happy Quilting!

Celebrate Spring with Violette by Amy Butler!

Currently on it's way to our shop...Amy Butler's latest victory! I'm not exaggerating when I say I think Violette is some of Amy's most inspired work! The colors and intricacies of her patterns in this collection remind me of when her fabrics first hit the markets and all you could think is that you'd never seen something like this before. While the essence of these fabrics still has a immediately identifiable Amy vibe, they still seem like something SO new and wonderful from her! I am just in awe!! GO GIRL!!

The colors and diversity in the patterns is totally refreshing and there's a perfect balance of eclectic, bohemian feels with feminine poise! I just think this would be a DREAM to redo a bedroom in. Start with painting your room a nice gray, light mauve or lavender for something subtle...pick one of the brighter colors for some punch or keep walls a clean white and let the fabric do the talking. Then create some new bedding, curtains and throw pillows! This line definitely screams new, fresh...totally Spring and Summer yet with all of those jewel tones and neutrals, I think I'd feel right at home surrounded by these prints all year! Especially with a stunning new quilt or duvet cover!

Can we talk for a minute about the Square Dance quilt? I don't know if I've seen a prettier one in a long while. It's totally a combination of just how gorgeous these prints are and the quilt design itself  isn't doing a thing to these fabrics except making them look their absolute BEST! I just love it. No other way to describe it. And what I love the most about it is it's FREE. Thank you Amy, thank you! Update your bedroom starting with this fabulous centerpiece!

Don't forget to shop Amy's Patterns for even more creative ways to use these fabrics. Everything from bohemian garments to cool bags to perfect pillows to accent your space!

Now check out this fabulous video from Fall Quilt Market in Houston last year as Amy shows you around her prize winning booth! Her concepts are always so beyond dreamy! I seriously want to LIVE in an Amy Butler Market booth one day, just sayin'...

We hope you love this line as much as we do! There are so many beautiful ways to use Violette and we can't wait to see what you create! Order your favorite prints today and we'll ship them out to you as soon as they arrive!
Happy Sewing!
